Valentine's Day Book Stack!
I love books and I love vintage looking decor pieces. Here is a way to achieve that look, even with newer items!
What You’ll Need:
Here is what I used for this project:
- 3 paperback books (I rummaged these from a thrift store)
- Alphabet stamps
- Stamp ink
- Lace ribbon or twine (I found this ribbon at the dollar store!)
- Greenery/fillers from Oh You're Lovely
- Wood flowers from Oh You're Lovely
Take Off the Book Covers & Start Gluing!
The first thing I wanted to do is expose the book spine by removing the entire cover. It should pull off pretty easily but if there are remnants left on the spine, use a medium grit sand paper to remove it.
To ensure that the books would stay tightly together, I hot glued them together. Just put a good amount of glue between the layers and press the top book down until the glue dries.
You can use hard cover books for this project. If you do, you will want to paint the spine so you can stamp on the letters in the next step!
Stamp Your Saying!
Find a 3 word phrase that has meaning to you or the person you are gifting the book stack to and stamp it on the binding! I like to add one word per book.
Sometimes...words are hard for me so I also will lay out the stamp letters to make sure everything is going to be spelled correctly! If you are using a letter more than once, I will leave a space when I lay out the stamps
Tie Your Ribbon!
I started by laying the ribbon underneath the book stack horizontally. Then I tie a knot and wrapped the ribbon vertically. Since I wanted the meeting point to be off center, I made sure the meeting point was to the right of the stamped words.
To finish it off, I tied a simple bow.
Add Your Greenery/Fillers and Flowers!
I love my pinks (as you can see from my last two projects!) but I am also a big fan of a traditional red with pops of gold!
To add my floral accents, I started by gluing down the gold bay leaves as they were the largest and boldest greenery/filler component. Next, I mixed in some Italian ruscus to bring in a more natural tone.
Time to add our beautifully red Helen flowers! I used two 3" flowers and one 2.5" flower to make a cute little cluster on top of the books and off center to help bring the focus to the area where the ribbons meet.
To finish the piece off, I added bleached mini gypsophila. This helped bring the cream coloring from the books and ribbon throughout the greenery/filler!
You’re Done!
And here we go! A super pretty little gift or home decor piece for Valentine's Day or every day!
